A Week of Recipes and Frugal Cooking

I am going to try this week to share a recipe a day. I am going to focus on frugal, healthy, and tasty ideas that my own kids and husband love.

Granola

We eat this granola as a snack straight out of the bowl, as a cereal with milk, and on top of yogurt. I have tried it with different nuts and it is always delicious. You can also add dried fruit such as bananas, for a banana nut cereal, or raisins, for a cinnamon raisin treat.

Granola
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup honey
5 cups oatmeal
3/4 tsp cinnamon
Mix brown sugar, honey and oil in saucepan. Heat until sugar is dissolved. Pour over oatmeal and cinnamon in a large cake pan. Mix well. bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Let cool in pan, stirring occasionally to prevent clumping. Store in an air tight container.

We love granola. I'm going to try this one. We don't use vegetable oil. Would it be O.K. to substitute Canola oil or olive oil?

I know canola would work fine as well. I have used it before. I have never tried olive oil in this recipe. If you try it let me know if it works, please!
